Learn the basics of working with encaustic wax, and how to combine and collage mixed media and photos with encaustic painting from encaustic artist THERESE COOK.

This workshop is great for those new to encaustics or experienced artists that want to do something different with the medium. You will complete several paintings in this workshop.

All encaustic supplies will be provided.

Students must supply the following additional items for this workshop:

    • 2-4 wood panels, no larger than 8×10
    • Assorted collage materials: papers, tissue papers, sewing patterns, napkins, etc.
    • Photos printed on ink jet printer, ideally with interesting objects, people or animals large enough to cut out to collage
    • Glue sticks
    • Favorite stencils if you have some

    About Therese Cook:

“I have always been fascinated with color and texture and inspired by all the beauty that surrounds me every day. I found my creative outlet in interior design years ago and then started to create art, primarily using collage. In 2008, I attended an encaustic workshop and have been hooked on the process ever since.

I love the way the wax feels and smells, the versatility of it, layering and carving back, and the luminosity of the finished pieces. I sometimes start with an end in mind but many times just let the process and my intuition take over and let the wax do what it wishes.
